Global Drought Observatory

The GDO provides near-real-time drought monitoring and early warning globally. Its Combined Drought Indicator integrates precipitation anomalies, soil moisture deficit, and satellite-measured vegetation stress into a single drought severity map updated every 10 days. For India, it provides continuous drought risk monitoring at 0.1° resolution — particularly useful for tracking monsoon deficits, groundwater stress, and agricultural drought onset before official declarations. The risk of drought impact layer adds sectoral exposure for agriculture and population.
