A short list, deliberately. Anything that hosts its own data is filed as a data source in the index instead — what is left here is the directories proper, whose whole contribution is knowing where to point you. Where a licence is stated we say so; it decides whether you can build on their work or only link to it.

Community-curated directory of AI tools, dashboards and open projects built for Indian public-policy research and practice
The directory collects policy-facing AI tools and civic applications that are otherwise scattered across personal repositories and institutional websites. Its listings include parliamentary trackers, budget visualisations, regulation monitors, analytical tools and citizen-facing projects, with search and topic filters running entirely in the browser.
The catalogue is maintained as community-editable YAML and automatically checks new submissions for missing fields, bad links and duplicates. The repository describes itself as open source but does not currently provide a recognised licence file, so Soochi records the licensing status as unclear.

Curated directory of documentaries on labour, caste, land dispossession, agrarian movements, and climate justice across India and the world
This curated Google Sheet provides a structured watchlist of over 50 non-fiction films, documentaries, and investigative shorts exploring critical themes in political economy, social stratification, and ecological crisis.
Each listing records the film title, director, release year, thematic keywords, regional focus, and direct streaming or trailer links (primarily YouTube and independent film platforms).
The catalogue is organised into six thematic collections:
- Labour, Caste, Migration & Agrarian Distress: Canonical works documenting untouchability, manual scavenging, mill and unfree labour, urban homelessness, and agrarian indebtedness (including Anand Patwardhan’s Jai Bhim Comrade and Hamara Shahar, Divya Bharathi’s Kakkoos, Deepa Bhatia’s Nero’s Guests, Shaunak Sen’s Cities of Sleep, and Yugantar Collective’s Tambaku Chaakila Oob Aali).
- Land, Dispossession, Extraction & Environment: Grassroots resistance against displacement, mega-dams, and resource extractivism in Adivasi regions (including Akhra’s Resistance, Biju Toppo and Meghnath’s Development Flows from the Barrel of the Gun, Franny Armstrong’s Drowned Out, and Sanjay Kak’s In the Forest Hangs a Bridge and Red Ant Dream).
- Indian Farmers’ Protest (2020–21): Documentaries chronicling the historic year-long agitation on Delhi’s borders (Too Much Democracy, Farming the Revolution, Trolley Times: The Film, Kisan Satyagraha).

IHME's catalogue of health datasets — surveys, disease registries, geospatial data, and Global Burden of Disease results, searchable by country and topic
The GHDx is the data catalogue of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. It is the best starting point for discovering health data for any country — search by geography (India), topic, or data type and find microdata, survey results, disease estimates, and administrative records. For India, the GHDx indexes hundreds of datasets including state-level disease burden studies, NFHS, SRS, civil registration, and cause-of-death data from multiple sources. The Global Burden of Disease results are accessible through a companion tool (vizhub.healthdata.org/gbd-results).

ADRs MyNeta compiles candidate disclosures, criminal cases, assets and education records from India's election affidavits
MyNeta is a civic-facing index for election transparency in India, pulling candidate filings from the official system and presenting them in usable, comparable formats. It is especially useful for tracking declared criminal cases, assets, liabilities and education claims across candidates and elections, then linking that back to constituency-level accountability work.

Crowd-sourced directory of public community spaces across India — libraries, makerspaces, museums, science centres and galleries
Maintained by Samagata Foundation, covering 28 states and union territories. The whole dataset downloads as CSV, which makes it one of the few Indian cultural-infrastructure datasets you can actually analyse.

World Bank’s open-access repository for papers, working papers, books and research outputs across development sectors
The Open Knowledge Repository is the World Bank’s main channel for open access publications and working papers. It is useful as a discovery layer when you need official working papers, policy briefs, conference papers and reports that may not yet be indexed in flagship publication pages. For India-centric research, it is especially useful for pulling background material, impact evaluations and sector-specific technical notes to support evidence-based writing.

Catalogue of Indian data portals and datasets, filterable by domain, geography, format, access and machine readability
Tathyakosh indexes Indian government portals, public-sector data sources and individual datasets, then links users to the original source. Its metadata helps narrow a search by subject, geographic coverage, file format, access conditions, API availability and machine readability.

Thousands of survey microdatasets — household, business, and administrative surveys from the World Bank and partner organisations, many with India content
The Microdata Library catalogues thousands of surveys from the World Bank, national statistical offices, and international organisations. For India, it contains NFHS rounds, Enterprise Surveys, Global Findex data, and various impact evaluations and living standards surveys. The key value proposition: many of these datasets are available as anonymised microdata for researchers who register. This is where you find the raw survey responses, not just the published tables. The API provides metadata; actual microdata access requires registration and sometimes additional approval from the data owner.
