India Data Portal (IDP), run by ISB’s Bharti Institute of Public Policy, is one of the most useful Indian resources that remains surprisingly under-known. It aggregates and standardises public datasets from across the Indian government — agriculture (mandi prices, crop production), financial inclusion (banking penetration), elections (candidate affidavits, results), health (NFHS), and education (UDISE) — into a common, analysis-ready format. For researchers who don’t want to spend their lives cleaning government spreadsheets, IDP is a godsend. It provides visualisation tools, APIs, and pre-computed summary statistics. The portal also publishes analytical articles demonstrating how to use the data for policy research.
