nikunjfriends25-droid.github.ioThe Western Ghats ESA Atlas is an open-access geospatial data initiative that reconstructs spatial boundaries for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) draft notification S.O. 3060(E) of 31 July 2024. While the official gazette lists 4,402 villages across six states without geographic boundaries, this project matches 4,331 villages (98.4%) to their all-India 2011 Census polygons.
Covering ecologically fragile contiguous landscapes across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, the atlas provides interactive vector maps, per-state downloads in GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, CSV, and full-resolution GeoPackages, alongside a static REST API for developers, conservationists, and public policy researchers.
