Centre for Science and Environment

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) was founded in 1980 by Anil Agarwal and is one of India’s premier public interest research and advocacy organisations. CSE conducts empirical policy research, environmental audits, laboratory pollution testing, and public campaigns on clean air, urban transport, rainwater harvesting, renewable energy, and industrial pollution.

CSE publishes Down To Earth, India’s leading science and environment fortnightly, as well as the annual State of India’s Environment report. Its advocacy contributed to landmark policy transformations including the introduction of CNG public transit in Delhi, mandatory rainwater harvesting, and pesticide standards in beverages.
