Google Agricultural Understanding Platform
Google platform using satellite imagery and ML to delineate farm field boundaries and monitor crop seasons at individual field level
agri.withgoogle.comGoogle’s Agricultural Understanding Platform organizes planetary agricultural information at the individual farm field level using high-resolution Earth observation satellite imagery, geospatial data, and machine learning models.
The platform provides two primary capabilities via developer APIs:
- Agricultural Landscape Understanding (ALU): Automatically detects and delineates discrete farm field boundaries at scale, computes field acreage, and maps water bodies and tree cover for drought contingency planning.
- Agricultural Monitoring and Event Detection (AMED): Delivers in-season, chronological crop classification, planting/harvesting cycle detection, and phenological monitoring across growing seasons.
Outputs integrate directly into Google Earth Engine and BigQuery to support precision agritech advisory, public agricultural policy, and farm credit-risk assessment.
