HMIS

The Health Management Information System (HMIS) portal, run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, provides monthly facility-level health service delivery data from public health facilities across India. It covers maternal health (ANC, institutional deliveries), child health (immunisation), family planning, and disease control programmes. For researchers, HMIS is the most granular source of routine health service data — however, data quality is uneven across states and facilities, and the portal can be difficult to navigate. The data is primarily used to track health system performance and for state-level health planning. HMIS data complements the periodic NFHS and SRS surveys with higher-frequency (monthly) administrative data.
