India Productivity Lab

The India Productivity Lab, part of the Centre for Productivity and Growth at LEAP Insights, focuses on measurement, diagnostics, and analysis of firm-level productivity and economic performance in India. Its most important public output is the India KLEMS database — a productivity accounts framework covering Capital (K), Labour (L), Energy (E), Materials (M), and Services (S) inputs for 27 industries from 1980 onwards. This is the standard dataset for studying India’s productivity growth, structural transformation, and the sources of economic growth. The Lab also produces diagnostic tools and frameworks to help firms and policymakers understand productivity bottlenecks. For researchers, India KLEMS is essential for any serious analysis of Indian economic growth at the industry level. The global KLEMS framework ensures cross-country comparability.
