Mapeo

Mapeo is a free, offline-first toolset for communities to document, monitor and map places, evidence and stories. It is designed for collaborative work where connectivity is limited: projects can define their own data structures, retain local control and synchronise directly among devices rather than depending on a continuously available central server.

The software was co-designed with Indigenous partners for territorial defence and conservation and is maintained by the nonprofit now called Awana Digital, formerly Digital Democracy. Its inclusion in Env Wiki establishes environmental relevance, but it is global rather than India-specific. Projects handling sensitive community or location data should still establish consent, security and governance practices before deployment.
