National Council of Applied Economic Research

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), established in 1956 in New Delhi, is India’s oldest and largest independent economic policy research institute. NCAER conducts applied empirical economics research across macroeconomics, trade, agriculture, human development, and infrastructure.

NCAER is recognized for designing and executing large-scale, representative national surveys, notably the India Human Development Survey (IHDS in partnership with the University of Maryland) and long-term rural household panel studies tracking income mobility and agricultural transitions.
