searchgadchiroli.orgSEARCH (Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health) was founded in 1986 by medical doctors Abhay and Rani Bang in tribal Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. SEARCH combines community medicine, primary clinical care, and epidemiological research.
SEARCH developed the groundbreaking Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) model, which trained village women to diagnose and treat neonatal infections and asphyxia, reducing infant mortality by over 60%. The model was adopted globally by the WHO and UNICEF, and formulates the foundation of India’s national ASHA community health worker program.
