Tella

Tella is a mobile documentation app built for human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society organisations working in high-risk environments. It encrypts photos, videos, and audio recordings on the device before they are stored, and can disguise itself as a calculator or weather app. Features include offline data collection, secure cloud upload, and configurable security settings. For Indian human rights organisations, activists, and researchers documenting sensitive situations — environmental violations, police conduct, displacement, labour rights abuses — Tella provides essential protection for both the data and the person collecting it. Developed by Horizontal, a nonprofit building digital security tools for civil society. Free and open-source.
