Agriculture Census of India
Five-yearly statistics on operational holdings, holding size, land use, irrigation, tenancy and farmer characteristics
agcensus.gov.inConducted roughly every five years, the Agriculture Census describes operational holdings rather than ownership parcels. It provides distributions by holding size, social group and sex of holder, alongside operated area, tenancy, land use, irrigation and cropping characteristics at national, state and finer levels where tables are released.
An operational holding can combine multiple plots and may differ from the legal owner or cadastral parcel, which matters when interpreting land concentration. The newest portal also supports fieldwork and progress monitoring, while final tables can arrive well after the reference year. Check whether a result is a provisional dashboard count or a published census table.
