Its public-use files and tables cover factories, workers and wages, fixed capital, working capital, materials, fuels, electricity, products, output and value added, with industry and state classifications suitable for studying manufacturing structure and productivity.
ASI is not a census of every Indian enterprise: it covers factories within its statutory frame, while most informal and unregistered establishments are covered by separate enterprise surveys. Sampling schemes, NIC industry classifications and disclosure treatment vary across years. Use multiplier weights and current concordances rather than treating observed records as totals.
