Global Burden of Disease Results

The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, coordinated by IHME, is the world’s largest systematic effort to quantify health loss. For India, GBD provides state-level estimates of mortality, cause of death, disease prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and risk factor attribution — comparable across states and over time from 1990. This is the dataset behind headlines about India’s disease burden shifting from communicable to non-communicable diseases.
