WHO Global Health Observatory

The WHO Global Health Observatory is the World Health Organization’s statistical portal, providing over 1,000 health indicators for 194 member states. For India, the most useful datasets cover mortality (life expectancy, cause-of-death, maternal and child mortality), disease burden (TB, malaria, HIV, NCDs), health systems (health workforce, hospital beds, health expenditure), risk factors (tobacco, alcohol, obesity), and environmental health (air pollution, water/sanitation). The data is free, well-documented, and accessible through an API. The GHO’s strength is its cross-country comparability — every indicator uses the same definitions and methodology, making India comparable with any other country in the world.
